KLM Minis (U8-U10) marks the exciting start of league competition. At U8, teams play 4-aside soccer and at U9-U10, teams graduate to a larger field and 7-aside teams. New for 2019-2020, all U8, U9, U10 teams are coached by qualified staff coaches. Spots are capped at KLM so register early. First game: Sat, Sept 14th, 2019 (projected by league)
Season: Sept 9th, 2019 – Mar 1st, 2020 (6 months)
Holidays Winter Holidays: Dec 23-Jan 5, 2020
The league may/may not schedule games at Thanksgiving (Oct 12-14), Family Day (Feb 15-17), or other weeks. The club will notify parents ahead of time. Practice cancellations are also determined by team coaches.
Practices U8-U10 players have two practices per week (be mindful of shoe-wear for the different fields). It is parental responsibility to have players arriving 10 minutes before each practice, dressed appropriately.

Indoor Gyms For Jan-Feb, Mon/Tues practices will move indoors 6-7pm or 7-8pm at local school gymnasiums. Parents will be notified by the club.
Game Times The league schedules games between 9am-1pm on Saturdays for both girls & boys teams. Games are between 30-60 minutes depending on age, and divided between ‘home’ and ‘away’. Away games are played against other local Vancouver soccer clubs.

Speak with your team parents regarding car-rides and car-pooling as KLM wants to ensure all players have access to transportation to/from practices and game. Note, KLM has no control over league schedules; we are obligated to follow them.

Equipment Players must have their own shin-guards and cleats. KLM provides a team jersey, black shorts and socks which players should wear only on game days. Think weather-appropriate clothes. (See Common Questions below)
Weather We play rain or shine. KLM notifies parents by 7pm Fridays of field closures as is determined by the Vancouver Park Board or Vancouver School Board. See Common Questions below for ‘Alternative Fields and Field Status’.

Cost $325 for 6 months of soccer lead by staff coaches. This including two practices per week, league games, and indoor gyms for Jan-Feb.

Common Questions: Safety Related

Safety?
Safety is first. Please make coaches aware of any potential injuries or illnesses.

Appropriate Clothing?
For practices, kids can wear either shorts or pants. For games, players need to wear their team jerseys, shorts, and shorts. Note, players can wear thermal-wear under their shorts & jerseys for games. For cold and wet weather, please consider soccer-appropriate hats, gloves, rain-gear or thermal-wear to keep warm. This is a parent/player responsibility.

Common Questions: Alternative Fields and Field Status

Games are sometimes scheduled on alternate (gravel) fields due to weather concerns. KLM Minis alternative field is at: Mount Pleasant Elementary (2300 Guelph St).

Player Development
Need more soccer? Note that in place of what was previously known as KLM Academy, all U8-U10 players are offered two week-day practices plus league games with full-time staff coaching as part of the cost of registration.

KLM Goalkeepers
Goalkeeping requires a different set of skills and training. All interested KLM players will have the opportunity to learn goalkeeping, as well as receive training.

Parent Volunteers
KLM is a non-profit youth sports organization supported by the dedication of staff and volunteers alike. Please contact info@klmsoccer.com if interested in volunteering for KLM club or for your child’s age-group. Remember that the coach rely on parents each week for communicating player availability, punctuality of players, goal net set-up, etc. Be part of making KLM better!

Financial Assistance?

Refunds?
Refunds are possible prior to deadline, less a $50 administration fee. The refund deadline for the upcoming season is April 15th. See www.klmsoccer.com/registration/#reg for further details. Requests and questions are to be emailed to the Registrar at registrar@klmsoccer.com.

Uniform Deposits?
Uniform deposits will be coordinated prior to season start.

Parental Attitudes?
Parents have a big impact in youth sports. Modelling positive attitudes, sportsmanship, respectful behaviour and spectator roles is integral to success in youth soccer. Help our coaches make KLM soccer positive for all involved.

Bringing Issues Forward?
There are always surprises in youth soccer. Remember that fields, times, etc may be adjusted for many reasons, and sometimes at last minute. Please work with staff to model healthy and proactive communication.
